New home user licensing more limited on V7..

And still no power users license... its been a good last 4 years, but now I must bow out...

Well, I read the release notes, and it looks like 10 user/10 ip addresses, with 1000 concurrent connections... however, it looks like they can shut down connections when it goes above %110 of usage on the 1000 user license now, and I am wondering if this will also happen with the 10 user license....

"Home-Use Licenses
We will continue offering a Home-Use package. The new V7 package will be free of charge and will now include the base license, all subscriptions and Astaro Up2Date. But it will be limited to 10 IPs/10 Users, and 1000 concurrent connections.
Note: Astaro will provide no support to home users and they need to agree to participate in Astaro’s Threat Research Network."

and this from the 1000 user section...

Within ASG software the limits for maximum IPs / users are now enforced in the following
way:
• The administrator will get an email notification if the IP limit is reached.
• At that time new IPs / users will still be accepted up to a maximum of 110%
of the licensed number of IPs (grace limit)
• If the grace limit is reached no more IPs / users will be accepted

Hoby,
the 10 user/10IPs is about as clear as mud in the proverbial beer bottle.

Does that mean 10 IP through the firewall?

Does that include 10 IPs that only use the proxies?

Does that mean 10 IP defined in network definitions?

Does that mean 10 IPs defined in DHCP?

At the moment under v6.933 it counts the internal interface and nearly all but not all IPs on the network.

just as a small reminder.

The home use license was always limited to max. 10 IP's behind the firewall. So there is no change in that.

We even extended the home use licenseand give you guys Web- and Email Filtering as well es Email-Encryption completly free, inluding instant pattern updates.

This means free Anti-Virus, free Anti-Spam, free URL-Filter, ... etc.

The 10 means ten devices behind the firewall communicating with or through the asg device. We only count the last seven days.

I thought license counting was always connections THROUGH the firewall? Not one's terminating at the proxies for instance?

Not too fussed, but this has now changed I take it?

Gert,
I don't have a problem with the 10 user licence as long as it is through the firewall. There are times when I end up with about 14 IP addresses on the internal side of the firewall, but only 7 or 8 addresses actually traverse the firewall. The others use it for it DHCP and NTP.

WAP - NTP from ASG

It is also a bit mean to include the internal interface in the licence count.

how can i order free v7 license home.

This sux!! Why have you limited 1000 curent connections!? Remove free antivirus , antispam and fee url filter and give us more connections. Have you try to run bittorrent ? What about dos and other attack?

And then, who will be reported for new bugs? Your pro. user, who is pay for working product?

What is wrong with you? This is stupid!!!

i hope i did t vote for you for this stupid new astaro 7 license!!

p.s.: when will you ubgrade this licens registration?

I think you'd need to be doing something odd to need more than 1000 concurrent connections with only 10 ips! I wouldn't worry about it.
I have over 300 users accessing the net and I rarely go over 1500 connections.
