Well the machine will be using hardware virtualization, perhaps that's why it looks more like a real machine.

Well I have my Astaro VM working brilliantly again.

What I did:
  • Install an additional HDD - Home Server was complaining it was running out of space, all drives had between 5% and 2% free. Stuck a 1.5TB drive in.
  • Clean CPU fan and HS - While I was in there I noticed there was a decent layer of dust on the HS that would have been blocking all airflow, the heatsink didn't feal hot though, guess these Core2Duos don't get that hot.
  • Replaced vid card - While I was cleaning dust out I gave the vid card a bit of a blow out and fiddled with the fan which felt stiff. When I powered the machine back up it would not POST. Closer inspection revealed bad caps on the vid card, disturbing it must have caused them to fail to the point where the card no longer worked. No onboard video so I had to go out and get a new card.
  • Fiddling with VMware server settings - Discovered that it was set to "Allow some virtual machine memory to be swapped". I thought that may cause it to slow down and disabled that feature.
Now my ASG is happily running using 3% to 5% CPU time, with my torrents running.

Hi,
I am glad to see it was something so simple and easy to fix.
