Default 7.500 update screws up Quicktime
Hi all

When I updated my 7.405 to 7.500, I noticed two things:

1. Quicktime stopped working for almost all sites (error 47, invalid URL)
2. The firewall became a lot less stable (frequent hangs and 100% CPU)

The rules have not changed at all and when I reverted the whole thing back to 7.405, it went back to normal again (good thing I had a snapshot).

There is NO proxy setup for web traffic...

Am I the only one with this issue and/or is it a known bug/limitation?

Try the 7.501 Up2Date. There are a lot of new IPS rules, so if your IPS wasn't configurred correctly before, there's a good chance you could have 100% and lockups. What do you have in 'Local networks' on the 'Global' tab of 'Intrusion Protection'?

Thanks for the suggestion, I already do have "Internal (Network)" in that list...

However, even if 7.501 solves this, that still leaves the problem of being unable to look at streaming content for QuickTime.

If you still have problems, please post the relevant line(s) from the Intrusion Protection or Packet Filter log.

Hi,

I solved that (at least for the Apple Movie Trailers) by disableing the caching for the "apple.com" Domain that was already present in the HTTP Exception List...

Edit:...if you had used a proxy...

OK, I've updated to 7.501 and disabled around 2000 of the IDS rules. The CPU spikes seem to not be there for now, however Apple - Movie Trailers still doesn't work anymore.

I noticed however, that if I turn IDS completely off, Apple - Movie Trailers works again... it seems that the new IDS introduced a rule that leads to false positives when using Quicktime.

When changing the Quicktime IDS rules from DROP to Notify (or turning it off entirely), everything works again...

@KSeemann: Yes, unfortunately, I can't do what you did as I don't have proxying on at all, but see above
