Default Astaro Internet Security vs BSD Firewalls
Hi all,

Looking over Astaro Internet Security (free version for home users), I must say it looks pretty neat. I do have one question that hopefully you guys can help me answer. How does the firewall feature of this free home version compare to that of m0n0wall or pfSense?

Hi,

Astaro is a commercial product that is free for home use, therefore it includes 98% if the m0n0wall and pfSense features plus a whole lot more.

Besides a complete packetfilter/NAT gateway, you have a full WebSecurity gateway including free commercial AV engine and a full MailSecurity Gateway including a commercial grage AV and Anti-Spam engine.

If you have not used it before, check out http://demo.astaro.com to see if the userinterface is easy to use.

The home-use edition also includes full firmware and pattern updates for free.

On top of that, astaro offers a complete free central management solution if you need to manage multiple Astaro Gateways.
