Question Email Encryption doesn't work

Hi ,

we are using Astaro 7.305 .
I have enabled the Email encryption. To test the whole thing I have created a PGP key pair with Thunderbird RSA/2048. I have imported the public key into the Astaro Mail->Security->Encryption->OpenPGPPublicKeys. Encrypt outgoing email under Options is enabled.
When I now send an email to my Thunderbird address the email and the attachments a readable without decryption.
For me it seems that email encryption doesn't work at all.

Have I forgot something ?Any ideas ? Thanks a lot for helping.

Best regards,
Thor

Hi ,

thank you for your answer.
I have created an email user. Now it seems to work.
Is this a bug or a feature? In my eyes it is not necassary to have a email user. You just want to encrypt all outgoing email to certain recipient no matter who is the sender. Therefor you have the default policy under options.

Best regards,
Thor

You have to assign a key to the user, so yes, creating a user is necessary.

Hi ,

thank you for your answer.

Why do I need a key for the user? I don't want to sign the email, I only want to encrypt it. So all I need is the public key from the recipient.

Best regards,
Thor

To use the encryption feature you need to have three things:
Enable the function, setup those users who are allowed to use this feature and have the public key for the receipient.

There is no way to enable the function "globally" - only listed "Internal Users" can use this function.

Cool

Hi,

thank you for your answer.

unfortunatly it is like you say.
May be in the next version it is possible to have a global switch.
If you have 80 users in your backend mailsystem you don't want to create 80 email users on the Astaro. And every change you make in your backend system you have to repeat on the Astaro, too.

Best regards,
Thor
