Exclamation pop3 proxy prefetch problems after upgrade to 7.306

i think this is a bug.

after applying upgrades 7.306 and later (all the way up to 7.401) the pop3 prefetch is acting strangely. i have two servers defined. the accounts that use the second of the two POP3 servers "imported #2" are able to fetch mail just fine, all works fine. the accounts that use the first POP3 server cannot fetch any mail.
in looking at the pop3 proxy live log, no errors are seen, but no emails are fetched:

2009:04:22-07:34:39 fw pop3proxy[1022]: Connection from <client> for (Imported #1 server_id 1)
2009:04:22-07:34:39 fw pop3proxy[1022]: logged in (account 1)
2009:04:22-07:34:39 fw pop3proxy[1022]: logged out

it does this same exact sequence even though when i look using web mail at the account on the server and see that there are messages waiting. requesting email from the clients that use the second defined pop3 server come thru just fine. turn off the prefetch and emails come through just like expected. turn the prefetch back on and emails for server2 come thru, emails from server 1 never do.

this was all working until 7.306 and later patches, and sure looks to me like a bug in the prefetch.

jerichod.

POP3 Proxy hasn't changed in 7.306. Does your log contain lines beginning with "Prefetch:" ? There may be a problem with the servers ip addresses imported from 7.2xx.

Please try following steps:
1. In Webadmin go to POP3->Advanced.
2. Click Edit for "Imported #1".
3. Add a new DNS group with the same hostname entered in your mailclient.
4. Remove all IP addresses from the list.
5. Save settings

Then repeat these steps for your second server.

So, instead of using a Host definition with the actual IP address, one must now use the FQDN of the mailserver? Please make sure that the documentation is changed to reflect this fact.

Thanks - Bob

It's not wrong to have ip addresses there, but the FQDN periodically resolves to its current ip addresses. The addresses in this case result from updating to 7.300 because the FQDN wasn't known in prior versions.

Jerichod:

Can you migrate to v.7.402? It has a better Pop3 proxy.

A new proxy has got introduced in 7.300 and hasn't changed till 7.402 (not regarding small bugfixes).
