Default Dyndns + Custom DNS

Anyway to get the dyndns for the Custom DNS service to work on ASL 6.105?
(service-type=dyndns-custom)

I did try the "old" 5.xx ez-ipupdate / custom dyndns hack...but

--
Starting Ez-IPupdate:unknown service type: dyndns-custom
try one of: ezip, pgpow, dhs, dyndns, dyndns-static, ods, tzo, gnudip, easydns, justlinux, dyns, hn, zoneedit
--

And service-type=dyndns-static and the default service-type=dyndns donīt work for Custom DNS service on dyndns.

Goran,

I too have just come across this problem after upgrading from V5 to V6. At first look it appears the the version of ez-ipupdate has been reverted back to an old (2 versions out of date) version. I will try to upgrade it on my firewall later today and post the results here.

Simon.

OK, I've had a look at what is going on here and I have to admin that I can't understand what Astaro have done, or more to the point why!

On V6 of ASL the ez-ipupdate rpm is version 3.0-12 (I'm guessing packaged up by Astaro) and it contains version 3.0.10 of ez-ipupdate. This version is from the year 2000 and before ez-ipupdate supported dyndns-custom. This explains why the old hacks don't work in V6.
I had a look at the package on the V5 CD I have and it contains a package version of 3.0-5, but this contains the latest version of ez-ipupdate (3.0.11b8). There has been no development work on ez-ipupdate since 2002.

I have also seen a vulnerability advisory on ez-ipupdate that exists in all versions. It would probably be advisable for Astaro to look into replacing it with something newer. Preferably something that supports the use of SSL so that usernames and passwords are kept secure.

In the meantime I am experimenting with removing the V6 package with the package from V5 to see if this at least overcomes the immediate problem.

Simon

Just another update. I have installed the version of the package from ASL v5 and everything now works as it did before. Although I am just a little afraid that the next time an up2date is released that it may get reverted to the 'correct' version.

I am now looking at the source code for ez-ipupdate with the intention of rewriting parts of it to use curl, and thus allow for secure updates.

I just updated my DynDNS to a custom today and now I get an email every couple hours that DYNDNS server is restarted on Astaro 6.105. Ist there any connection to these other issues? Does Astaro even care? Should I just hack it?

hoby, Is this still an issue for you, or have you managed to get updated to the point where the restart isn't occurring regularly?

Unhappy Dyndns still a problem?

I've just found this thread on a search. I seem to be having the same problem on Astaro 6.303. I also saw the reference to a thread to hack the Astaro to fix it. Is this the only solution? The thread seems to have been around for a while and the problem seems to be a pretty basic failure of functionality.

Is there any news/rumour/soothsaying of a 'proper' fix?

I'll check it out under the ASG 7 beta and let you know (I haven't gotten that far with it, yet). However, I can tell you that this hack (my latest tweak is available in the forum here) is still working (and necessary, AFAIK) under 6.303.
