Question Turn Off Archiving

Is there a method through the command line to disable all log archiving but maintain all other functionality? Normally I keep logs for three days. Being I use astaro at home the archives are not used. Also what is the URL for requesting features?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi,
Are you saying you don't want to keep logs for 3 days, or you don't want them to be compressed, or ?

Feature requests: Astaro Gateway Feature Requests

Hi Barry,

I am saying that Astaro is configured use the log setting of three days, but I do not want to have any archives. In web admin>logging>settings>local logging>automatic log file deletion is set to 3 days. Under View Log Files>archived log files, you can go back in time to review archived logs. I desire to disable archiving of log files completely while preserving other logging functionality such as auto deletion of files(rotation) older than the defined time limit. The only way this could be done is via command line interface(direct file edit). So the question is what is the best way to implement turning off log archiving? If you went to /var/log you would see the archive directories in blue (example /var/log/accd with the following directory and files inside /2010/accd-2010-03-04.log. Certain file(s) will have to be edited to turn of archiving and I don't want to hope and poke.

Thanks,
Jim

Well, you can change it from 3 days retention to 1 day, at least in 7.504.
Would that achieve what you want?

Or are you saying you want 3 days, but all in one file without archives?

Barry

Jim, please check the 'Configuration' tab in logging to be sure you have configured for automatic logfile deletion after 3 days. If that's set, then there seems to be a bug.

Guys,

Thanks for getting back to me. I want to keep no more than three days of log files in one file with no archiving. One day actually would work better but I do look at them and there are days due to my schedule I don"have time to check the logs. To answer Bob's question in web admin>logging>settings>local logging>automatic log file deletion is set to 1 day at the moment. Normally it is set to 3 days. I have been manually deleting the archives from /var/log. The thresholds are all set to 5% and delete oldest log first. However log archiving still occurs. This is evidenced by going to web admin>logging>settings>local logging>view log file>archived log files. If they are not deleted the file names will appear by date. There is not a “configuration” tab under the logging settings.

Thanks,
Jim

That is strange, Jim. It should delete those files - what version of Astaro are you running?

Jim, That sounds like a malfunction to me. Maybe a factory reset with a configuration restore might fix that.

Cheers - Bob
