Default [7.502] HTTP-Proxy

Hallo, Astaro,

the implementation of the http-proxy in version 7.502 is a shame. My clients running with os linux. The downloads will be blocked, the download-sessions will be terminated with timeouts. In the live log of the http-proxy I have many logs with status 502. A link, witch downloads any content will be blocked in the next minute. Downloads will not find the end to download, the clients terminating with timeout. The http-proxy downloads and downloads and downloads, nothing will happen. Whats wrong. When You will send an update. I have changed the firewall to ipcop, there I have no problems with downloads with linux-clients over the advanced proxy.

Regards from egbert

There are other threads like this. I haven't seen it on our system nor on the clients I've looked at. Can anyone with this problem submit a ticket to Astaro Support?

Cheers - Bob

With only a half-dozen people complaining, I don't think it's a problem with the HTTP/S proxy. If there were such a problem, I and everyone else would see it.

The most-reasonable explanation seems to be a DNS problem: an incorrect forwarder listed in the Astaro DNS Proxy, a listed forwarder that's dead, an IPS rule that's eating DNS responses, ... something.

Hallo, BAlfson,

that must be a http proxy problem. When I'm turning of the proxy, all is all right. No drops, no status 502, nothing. When I'm going to update my linux distribution, to the first, the repos will be updated. Then I can see, that the modem is flickering (downloading). But at the machine, a status of 50% stays, and thats all. Nothing happaens, you can wait 2 hours. When I'm downloading any content with the linux machine, aria2c will downloading the content from many servers at the same time. One server will be accepted, the others will be droped, the download hangs, nothing happens. Another download is ok. You can not say, when the download will hang, you only can have a look at the proxy live log, there you can see the status 502 and drops.
All these problems will be not up to date, when I'm turning of the http-proxy. By the way, then I have no content filtering, no virus scan. Then I have to search for onother firewall. Now I'm using IPCOP 1.4.21 with copfilter, advanced proxy and urlfilter addon. Here I have no problems. I will take IPCOP, if the http-proxy is fixed, I'm going to install ASG on my machine.

Best regards and thanks for the help
Egbert

Yes, everything you describe above is consistent with a DNS problem. Whether the Astaro should be so sensitive to DNS issues that it only works for 99.9% of installations is a valid question though.

I am not 100% sure but I think that I've read on a port that Astaro Support team was aware of a http proxy issue. I am sure whether it's the same or not though. Maybe someone from the team can let us know

We're seeing something similar on 7.502.

We cannot download any Excel (.xls) files. After a long wait, we receive an Astaro "connection to server timed out" message. In http.log, I see a 502 status message with exceptions="", error=""

It's not a server and/or DNS issue. We put a .xls and .doc file in the same directory on a Internet facing web server. We can download the .doc file just fine. However, the .xls file times out. I can download the .xls file from my smartphone.

I submitted a case to Astaro and am waiting to hear from them. Bill
