Default HACK: adding IPTraf to ASL5

This works on ASL 5 without needing any PlusPack or additional libraries.

IPTraf is a nice, free Network Monitoring program for showing network traffic statistics, etc., in realtime.

Instructions for ASL 5:
get IPTraf 2.7.0 binary from one of the download sites listed at http://cebu.mozcom.com/riker/iptraf/download.html
(download to another machine and use scp, or you can use NCFTPGET directly from ASL, but you'll need to temporarily allow the Astaro EXT interface to FTP in PacketFilter Rules)

untar it (in /tmp or /home/loginuser or whatever)

cd iptraf-2.7.0.bin.i386/src

./install.sh /usr/local/bin /var/local/iptraf /var/log/iptraf /var/run/iptraf

run iptraf!

To use from an SSH terminal, make sure your set your SSH client to use LINUX terminal emulation, and ANSI Color. Also, you'll need to use a font such as MS Terminal.

This won't work on ASL 3 or 4, but there are instructions in this thread.

Do you know if I can use Putty as SSH-client on a WinXPPro-PC to do this installation?

Yes you can. You should use something like winscp to transfer the files to the astaro box.

Default HACK: adding IPTraf to ASL7

Just tried the same method with ASL7 and IPTraf 3.0; it works!
