[7.460][QUESTION][ANSWERED] should astaro establish the Internet connection

... I've tried the home user license (25IP -ct magazin) for quite some time now. Tough I'm really pleased with it I still have some questions about it.

First of all I recently installed the 7.460Beta! Do I want to import my valid license or just try it for 30days. I mean is it possible to use the home license for the beta? Does it make sense at all?

Second: My FW is build on an itx intel mainbord Atom 330 *glf2. Should I go for Hyperthreading or does it make the system more unstable?

Third: The Internetconnection is handled by a Fritz!Box Router (Modem inside). Right now the Fritz!Box establishes the Connection and fowards all Ports to the Astaro.
Is it more commun to let Astaro manage the Connection? The it's probably possible to monitor the connection - and if there's no connection at all - the astaro is able to re-establish it. Does it work good this way, or should I leave it just like now - I do have some isues - sometimes there's no Internet connection - this could be a Lan-Card Problem as well - I already changed my lan card. But since the astaro does self monitoring? Wouldn't it be a better choise to let her do the job.

welcome to the beta testing forum.

1/. import your licence, if you have imported a backup you have imported your licence. Importing gives you a ready to go setup with all your rules in place except loginuser and root passwords.

2/. After some very agonising times, I have finally got my atom 330 to be stable with HT enabled. Unless you are running many users there is no advantage to HT other than I can and it does. Have you upgraded to the latest bios and done a default reset. Of course yuo then you do a bios config to your requirements. I discovered that is eeesnetial to get the atom 330 with ht stable or even just the atom 330 stable.

3/. I use a linksys modem router setup as a bridge modem and it works very well. Using the modem as a router introduces extra nat'ing etc between you and the real world. Harder to debug connection and packet filter/proxy issues.
With the modem setting up the connection you never actually have a report in the ASG as to link state, it is always up.

I did a bios update! Reset to defaults..

The Astaro won't set up my pppoa connection. The FritzBox is setup as a modem. But it won't work - the interface is always down?
This is not a very big problem since I got another ADSL Modem as well.
(I'll try another time...)
Right now, the FritzBox handles the internet connectivity. Under Portforwarding there's this option calle "Exposed Host" --> Probably like DMZ. (Firewall is off - and all traffic will be sent to the Astaro (which is the exposed host).

I bought a managed 8 Port GB Switch from Linksys (Business Series).

My Idea was, since I'm only able to use a total of 2 NIC Cards, to use vlan's.

I created 2 Vlan's - 1 - green LAN, 2 - Wlan Accesspoint (different IP Range).

Is it possible to use the build in NIC (INTEL ATOM 330 Board) to address different vlan's (TAG???)
My second NIC is a D-Link GB Card - 530T.

If I got this right. I need to change my Network Settings (ASTARO) from Ethernet to Ethernet Vlan (+TAG of Vlan). I'm only able to use 1 NIC since the other NIC goes straight into the ADSL MOdem/Router.

Could anyone help, please?

Hi,
that is how most of the atom users have their systems setup, using vlans.

I have an 8 port netgear switch which is vlan capable connected to one nic and the linksys modem connected to the other nic.
Works very well.

regarding to the post of Ian the best way is to use a VLAN Switch to create a DMZ and Internal network

I get the picture! I just need to create different Vlans (on the very same LAN Card! - like internal, dmz or for example wlan). And of course define the Vlans on the switch.

As I found out myself tagging is supportet by my internal and external Lan-Card (otherwise the card would not know where to send the packets).

Does anyone know how to set up the Astaro for AON Speed (Austria)?
There should be a Dokument on the Astaro KB (says the manual), but I was unable to find it.
