Angry ASC Hangs machine - firewall related

I have ASC on my machine and have the following issue when the client makes a connection to the server - with the ASC Firewall enabled.

The machine hangs, CPU goes 100% and the machine has to be switched off.

This only seems to happen when the firewall side of ASC is enabled.

Anyone else experienced similar?

apologies for the late reply. The machine hangs up completely so I have not managed to get the process which is 100%. By my reckoning it is the RSWRSU firewall service that is causing the issues as the client seems to work without the firewall without any issues.

You experienced similar?

Thanks for your response!

Windows firewall is disabled via Group policy BUT the service is still running, maybe offering the internet connection sharing, I will disable the service completely and see what happens there.

AV-wise we use eTrust, not had any application compatibility issues with it in the past.

The Firewall Service "running" should not be a problem as long as the firewall is disabled on the interface.

CA Etrust... which product exactly... I know that the CA suite has Zone Alarm built in which could be your problem. Pestpatrol and Vet/Innoc should be fine.

Any other VPN clients installed? ie. Cisco, etc..

We use the corporate eTrust AV aka Inoculan of old. No other VPN/FW services at all.

Check your NIC driver... see if there is an updated one. Also, (you probably already did this) kill as many start-ups or running processes as you can (just for testing) then run it.

Also, try creating an exclusion in eTrust for the active monitoring of files, directories, and processes for ASC. (or just disable it for a moment while you test)

Default Astaro and MS Virtual PC drivers

I think I have fixed it.

It seems it hangs with the Astaro adapter attempting to DHCP.

I removed from the Astaro NIC in Network connections a Virtual PC Network card service (I run Virtual PC 2004 SP1 on my laptop - but not the Astaro client within it)

This seems to have stabilised the connection for now so we will see how it goes.

Thanks for your support on this!

Regards

Chris
