Unhappy Allow Search of 3 Characters

It would be helpful if we could search using 3 characters or more. For example it is almost impossible to search for SSL VPN information. When I try and do a search those are removed because they are not long enough.

Thanks,

David

IDS
IPS
WOL
DES

If vbulletin is using MySQL as the backend with FullText indexing, there is an option in MySQL for the min length of FullText terms (ft_min_word_len)... see:

Hi,
Searching for 'vga cable' is useless on these forums as 'vga' is too short so it just searches for 'cable'.

Please see my comment immediately above for the fix. I've dealt with this issue on at least 2 of our sites and it works great.

There is an post from a member of the "vBulletin Team" at
Search Index Minimum Word Length - vBulletin Community Forum
saying the same thing.

The change would take a few minutes depending on the size of the db, and the forums would be down during that time.

Thanks,
Barry

The way I do that is to skip the built-in search and use Google:

site:astaro.org "vga cable"

Cheers - Bob
The link Barry found was the third one listed (his newest post about that link was the first ).
